camping | july 2009

1/08/2009

last weekend, some friends of ours from church (Chris, Kristy, Logan, Daelyn, and Riley) went up camping with us.  it was so much fun.  we got there around 1pm on Friday and set up camp.  then we just hung out at the campsite till dinner.  ate a delicious steak dinner and then of course made smores!!  can’t have a camping trip without smores!  :)  sleeping went incredibly well too.  our little family crammed into our “3″ person tent and slept amazing (well, zach was a bit restless).  i was amazed at how well holden did.  it didn’t get too cold, actually some of us were a little on the toasty side.  the next morning we woke up and cooked breaky, ok, actually Chris did (eggs, sausage, hashbrowns… mmmmm….).   Then we went for a little bit of a hike.  It was about 3 miles round trip, and that was definitely more then enough for the kiddos.  Coda fell early on and scraped up his knee (what a surprise!!), but he eventually was ok and once we got to our final destination, he was excited to be there.  The kids played in the little creek for a little bit and we had some snacks before heading back down.  The hike down was much much quicker then the hike up.   After we got back from our hike it started to rain off and on, so me and the boys took a little nap.  It was still raining when I woke up, so I played (taught) some Euchre with the guys.  Then Chris cooked us an awesome chicken dinner and since it was STILL raining off and on, we just sat around and debated on packing up and heading home early.  We all finally decided that we would just pack up rather then sit out in the cold.  And it was a good thing too, because it then started down pouring.  It was quite entertaining to see the guys pack up the tents in the pouring rain, and probably equally entertaining to watch us girls roast marshmallows for the promised smores in the pouring rain!   Well, even though we had to pack up early and head home, we had an awesome time, and I just might go camping again sometime soon.  ;)  Here are some photos from our trip.  Enjoy!

hiking day.

20/05/2009

one thing coda and I have always enjoyed is getting up to the mountains. this is the first year coda has been out of the backpack, and holden in… it was definitely interesting. coda did awesome, and so did holden… however I do think coda needs a little bit smaller pack. he likes to wear mine because it has the camel back in it, so he can hydrate on the go. this particular hike was with uncle josh and amelia up at “lair o’ the bear” open space out side of Morrison. The hike was about a mile… which was pretty good considering coda waled it all by himself!

Ski photos…

23/02/2009

Hello everyone.  As you all heard we went up to Berthoud Pass on Saturday.  It was a lot of fun.  We went up with our good friends, Brian and Jessca and their kids Haley and Joe.  We had a blast and the kids did too.  When we got there we realized we didn’t have our Bjorn and didn’t know what to do with HOlden.  Well, as resourceful as I am, I just plopped him in a sweatshirt, neck side down, put him in the sled and tied the sleeves to the sled to keep him from falling out.  Then we towed him up hill.  It was pretty funny to see.  Coda and Haley took turs skiing and sledding and Holden took a little nap in the snow.  We were up there for about 3 hours and then headed down to Beau Jo’s for some pizza and then over to Hopscotch for some icecream.   Click here for a slideshow of our fun day.

Puttin’ on the foil

Today Coda and I went out to try some of the new Hockey gear Mr. John (he’s the one in front in the black jersey skating like a pro) is letting him borrow.  He still needs a helmet and gloves (don’t worry he still wears his bike helmet when skating) but he will soon be a complete hockey player.  He is still a little timid to go fast on the skates but his balance is improving, and he is doing so much better.  I think he also likes having the pads because it doesn’t hurt as much when falls, he also feels really cool when he gets all the gear on… just like his dad :-)
