the boys all got Valentine’s Day card’s in the mail from Ya-Ya + Pa and their Great Grandma + Grandpa Smith. Such a fun thing for them to get today and the cards that sang songs were there favorites. Here is a little video of them getting crazy with the cards. Hope everyone had a great day filled with lots of love!
for those of you that would like to know. here is my story.
monday late afternoon, i started to get a few contractions. nothing measurable, nothing substantial, but something. i went in to my 38 week appointment to see Dr. Yardley. the baby was doing great! heart rate was around 139, he had been at around 145 for most of the pregnancy. she then checked to see if i was dialating, and i was at 2cm and baby was in the right position! we joked about how it could be tomorrow or in two weeks {coda was really pulling for sooner so he could go have camp Ya-Ya}. later that evening, i started getting more “regular” contractions. nothing super painful, but definitely measurable. some i would even have to stop and breathe through. we made the phone call to Ya-Ya that evening just to let her know that there maybe something happening and we might be bringing the boys to her that night. i packed my bag, tidied up the kitchen, and tried to finish the laundry. by midnight, we decided to go to bed and see if we could get any sleep. fortunately, i was able to get some sleep. the contractions did wake me up from time to time, but at least i got some sleep! i woke up the next day and decided to call into work and see if the contractions were going to worsen or if i would be doing this for weeks. {ugh!} after dropping coda off at school, we went home and i dug out the newborn clothes to sort and hang. the contractions were about 15 minutes apart and 30 seconds long. so, after we picked up coda from school, we went to chipotle for lunch and target to try and walk the baby out. well, 2 hours of wondering around target did nothing. so, it was back home to do more chores and let holden nap. my contractions continued to get worse and closer together, but still not enough to make a trip to the hospital. at this point they were around 30-45 seconds long and around 10 minutes apart. so….yet another trip to the mall was in order. i was pretty determined to walk this baby out. :) we got to the mall for some walking around and a pretzel snack. the contractions definitely started to get closer together and more painful. we decided to head to Ya-Ya’s and say hello {and maybe drop the boys off}. we got to Ya-Ya’s and it was pretty clear that Coda wasn’t going to be going home. :) and by this time the contractions were around 5 minutes apart, but only about 30 seconds long. of course, they tell you not to come in until they are over a minute long and 5-7 minutes apart. so, really, we didn’t know what to do. but, in the end, we decide to head over to the hospital around 8. by 8:30 we’re all checked in and the nurse is checking to see if they will admit us or send us home. she checks me and i have a bulging bag of water and his head is going down, but….only 3-4 cm dilated. ugh!! i think the nurse wanted to send us packing, but the on-call doctor decided that they would admit us. after we got to our room, they got me all hooked up to the monitors. we planned on walking the dreaded halls for a bit after they got a good read out of baby’s heart beat. the doctor arrived at around 9:30, right around when we were getting settled into our room. she checked to see how i was progressing, and YAY. i was at a 9. she offered to break my water, but that made me a bit nervous, so i asked if she could come back in a bit to do it. i knew that once they broke my water things would be getting intense. at around 10:30 or so, she came back and i was fully dilated. she broke my water and everyone prepared for a baby! things get crazy in the room. the doctor, nurse, and a nursery nurse were all in the room. after 3 contractions and 4 minutes of pushing Oliver Thomas had arrived. zach did an amazing job at helping me breathe and relax through the entire process. he also managed to get some amazing photos and video of the entire thing. here is the video, but i will warn you…it may make you cry.
here is a little video of holden’s first birthday. we had so much fun. he had lots of friends come. all the kids had so much fun playing on the jumpy castle and play set. we made barbeque pulled pork sandwiches, chips, spinach and artichoke dip, fruit and some yummy monster cookies. the cake was amazing! intricate icings did an amazing job on it. and it was delicious! my favorite had to be the chocolate with banana cream filling. yummy!! well, enjoy the slideshow! thanks to everyone that came! we had so much fun.
i can’t believe my baby is ONE! wow. this past year has flown by. enjoy this little slideshow of our little holden growing up. and stay tuned for photos from his 1st birthday party! it’s going to be good.
We bought Coda his first bike last week and he loves it, it seems like once he gets on it he can ride forever. He loves going fast down the hills, and he has learned about falling (quite a bit!) We got him horn too, so he makes sure he lets everyone know he’s coming! Here is a quick video of him on his “Rocket Bike”, I also have some pics I will try and get uploaded soon!
did I forget to share this one as well? This was taken on the day we got out to the park about a month ago for some playtime, holden had a lot of fun playing in the sandbox with his brother. coda loves to take his dump trucks to the park, he has two of them and always takes them both so he can share with other kids… what a nice guy!
o.k., so we uploaded this video a couple weeks ago but completely spaced putting it to share. holden has been clapping for a while now and it is by far his favorite thing to do. he is so funny because he always claps when likes something, needs something, or just because he knows when he does it we laugh at him. enjoy the video!
Here is a quick video we took of Holden this morning when he was laughing at Michelle. It did get way more out of hand than this but every time I walked out of the room he started laughing even harder. Guess he doesn’t have a career in movies because he seems to be a little camera shy. Enjoy, and have a great Day Light Savings! (hint, hint)
