check out coda’s new do. last week pa picked up coda for dinner and fun. about 30 minutes after they left, zach got a text from him asking if they could take coda to get a haircut. well, yeah sure, if you can convince him to get one! we’ve been asking and asking coda if he wanted to get his haircut and he would say, “NO WAY!” he loved his long hair, but whenever anyone else asked, he would say, “my mom likes it long.” well, i don’t know what pa and ya-ya bribed him with, but he came home that night clean cut! i think he looks pretty handsome. :)
for those of you that would like to know. here is my story.
monday late afternoon, i started to get a few contractions. nothing measurable, nothing substantial, but something. i went in to my 38 week appointment to see Dr. Yardley. the baby was doing great! heart rate was around 139, he had been at around 145 for most of the pregnancy. she then checked to see if i was dialating, and i was at 2cm and baby was in the right position! we joked about how it could be tomorrow or in two weeks {coda was really pulling for sooner so he could go have camp Ya-Ya}. later that evening, i started getting more “regular” contractions. nothing super painful, but definitely measurable. some i would even have to stop and breathe through. we made the phone call to Ya-Ya that evening just to let her know that there maybe something happening and we might be bringing the boys to her that night. i packed my bag, tidied up the kitchen, and tried to finish the laundry. by midnight, we decided to go to bed and see if we could get any sleep. fortunately, i was able to get some sleep. the contractions did wake me up from time to time, but at least i got some sleep! i woke up the next day and decided to call into work and see if the contractions were going to worsen or if i would be doing this for weeks. {ugh!} after dropping coda off at school, we went home and i dug out the newborn clothes to sort and hang. the contractions were about 15 minutes apart and 30 seconds long. so, after we picked up coda from school, we went to chipotle for lunch and target to try and walk the baby out. well, 2 hours of wondering around target did nothing. so, it was back home to do more chores and let holden nap. my contractions continued to get worse and closer together, but still not enough to make a trip to the hospital. at this point they were around 30-45 seconds long and around 10 minutes apart. so….yet another trip to the mall was in order. i was pretty determined to walk this baby out. :) we got to the mall for some walking around and a pretzel snack. the contractions definitely started to get closer together and more painful. we decided to head to Ya-Ya’s and say hello {and maybe drop the boys off}. we got to Ya-Ya’s and it was pretty clear that Coda wasn’t going to be going home. :) and by this time the contractions were around 5 minutes apart, but only about 30 seconds long. of course, they tell you not to come in until they are over a minute long and 5-7 minutes apart. so, really, we didn’t know what to do. but, in the end, we decide to head over to the hospital around 8. by 8:30 we’re all checked in and the nurse is checking to see if they will admit us or send us home. she checks me and i have a bulging bag of water and his head is going down, but….only 3-4 cm dilated. ugh!! i think the nurse wanted to send us packing, but the on-call doctor decided that they would admit us. after we got to our room, they got me all hooked up to the monitors. we planned on walking the dreaded halls for a bit after they got a good read out of baby’s heart beat. the doctor arrived at around 9:30, right around when we were getting settled into our room. she checked to see how i was progressing, and YAY. i was at a 9. she offered to break my water, but that made me a bit nervous, so i asked if she could come back in a bit to do it. i knew that once they broke my water things would be getting intense. at around 10:30 or so, she came back and i was fully dilated. she broke my water and everyone prepared for a baby! things get crazy in the room. the doctor, nurse, and a nursery nurse were all in the room. after 3 contractions and 4 minutes of pushing Oliver Thomas had arrived. zach did an amazing job at helping me breathe and relax through the entire process. he also managed to get some amazing photos and video of the entire thing. here is the video, but i will warn you…it may make you cry.
today, coda and i worked on finishing up his homework for the weekend. here is a sample of what he did. he’s a very good cutter and his coloring is really improving.
this year, santa paid a little visit to the boys on Christmas Eve. coda was a little shocked and very excited and energetic {he started doing flips on the couch!} but holden was very scared. he instantly started crying and there wasn’t much we could do to calm him down. well, when santa saw that the boys were still awake, he left the 2 presents that he already got out of his bag, but told them to get fast to sleep so he could bring everything else!! well, he did. santa was good to us this year. coda and holden got bunk beds! coda loves it {he seems to think they are from us though, since they wouldn’t fit down the chimney-even though we don’t have a chimney!}. it took him till the 3rd day to sleep on the top, but now that’s all he wants to do. we haven’t transitioned holden to the twin yet, but i’m sure once we do, he will love it too. i’ve already caught him up on the top a few times when we weren’t looking. holden also got a ball pit!! yeah, he loves that. and coda got lego’s which are his absolute favorite right now and Rock Band II for the Wii, which, I admit, maybe Zach and I play that more then anyone right now. :) and then the boys got some new clothes as well. we had a really great Christmas, and I hope to post more photos soon!!
here i am! 28 weeks with 3 different boys. coda, holden, and lastly…oliver. i seem to have lost a lot of the photos from 2004 (well, hopefully just can’t find them right now), but i think i might try and do this again. it’s fun to see the difference of the 3 boys. what do you think? do i look like i’m getting bigger as the pregnancies go on? i’m definitely bigger then when i was 28 weeks with coda, but i think i look about the same as when i was 28 weeks with holden. right now, i’m actually more like 32 weeks, so maybe i will go searching for some images from week 32! but for now. enjoy!! oh, and stay tuned. we will be having a little contest again to see who can pick the right birthday for little Oli T.
Today, Zach and I went up to Estes for a little meet and greet with some other wedding industry professionals as well as take a tour of the Della Terra. It was a lot of fun and the place was gorgeous!! Here are a few images of the two of us playing out in the rain.
here is a little video of holden’s first birthday. we had so much fun. he had lots of friends come. all the kids had so much fun playing on the jumpy castle and play set. we made barbeque pulled pork sandwiches, chips, spinach and artichoke dip, fruit and some yummy monster cookies. the cake was amazing! intricate icings did an amazing job on it. and it was delicious! my favorite had to be the chocolate with banana cream filling. yummy!! well, enjoy the slideshow! thanks to everyone that came! we had so much fun.
i can’t believe my baby is ONE! wow. this past year has flown by. enjoy this little slideshow of our little holden growing up. and stay tuned for photos from his 1st birthday party! it’s going to be good.
